This is for all of you out there who want to improve your performance skills!(I orginally found this basic idea in a rap magazine article about Busta Rhymes and I've added to it since then.)

     This theory on performing is called "CLAMP":
 

C=Concept  You've gotta have a tight concept for your songs. They just can't ALL be freestyles about random topics. Many new MCs have this problem. What is a tight concept? It needs to be at LEAST 2 things. It first of all, needs to be original!! How many times have ya heard the same thing on 20 different albums? If ya ain't got nothin' original to say why are people gonna wanna listen ta YOU? How are you gonna stand out from the pack if ya talk about the exact same stuff? There's more than enoughstuff to talk about, but most MCs just don't take the time to think about WHAT they wanna say! The second thing it needs to be is unique way! If ya gotta talk about the same topic or theme as someone else, then at least think of a new way ta come at it! How are you gonna stand out if you talk about things in the sameway? Most MC's don't take the time to think of HOW they wanna say things!
Hints:   Ask yourself what are some themes/concepts that most MCs don't talk about?
Ask yourself what are some themes/concepts that YOU don't talk about?
Ask yourself how would most MC's normally aproach this theme or concept?
Ask yourself how would YOU normally aproach this theme or concept?
What's some way that you or another MC has never approached this concept/theme?
Take your time and think on this for a fews days and see what ya come up with! Think of the bes' albums you've heard. I betcha every one of dem had orginal concepts! I betcha every one of dem had somethin' NEW ta say or at least a UNIQUE way ta say it! If you wanna have a tight concept then you need AT LEAST these 2 things.
